The Legend of Threadwyke

You’ve just arrived in the quaint town of Threadwyke, and some unusual feature in the square catches your eye. You ask the grandfatherly figure sitting by your inn's hearth if there is a story behind it.

“Story?” He chuckles and stirs the fire. “It is no mere story, it is the Legend of Threadwyke! I can tell you the nature of the hero, but the rest you must discover for yourself. A legend cannot simply be told, you know; it must be allowed space to grow.” The hearth-keeper sends you off to speak with the townsfolk, telling you to return to him once you’ve collected some fragments of the legend.

You suspect he mostly wants to return to his nap, but you pick up your journal and step into the streets of Threadwyke.

The Locked Garden

YYou found the key long ago—you hardly remember where or how—but you’ve kept it ever since, wondering if it was lost, discarded, or meant for you to find. One day, in a quiet back avenue of the quaint town of Threadwyke, you find an old, ivy-covered gate whose lockplate matches your key! You peek through the keyhole and glimpse a garden on the other side. Curious, you peek again. What secret does the garden hold, and what will you do once you have uncovered it?

About the Game

The Locked Garden is a one-page cozy solo journaling & sketching or tunnel book making game where you peek through a keyhole, piecing together clues about the garden on the other side.

You Will Need

  • This pamphlet: Your guide to the game.
  • Dice: One or two six-sided dice (d6).
  • Supplies: For journaling, sketching, or making a tunnel book.

How to Play

Each of the 10 weeks consists of four phases:

  1. Peek Through the Keyhole and roll on the Glimpse Tables to determine what you see.
  2. Record the Glimpse. This can be done as a journal entry with or without sketches, or a multi-layered tunnel book.
  3. When you have 4+ Clue Points, you may attempt to Uncover the Secret.
